Everything you want to know about AI grading with Gradifier

Answers to the most common questions about how Gradifier works,
Moodle integration, data privacy, pricing, and how it compares to other
tools.

HOW IT WORKS

Q. What is Gradifier and how does it work?

Gradifier is an AI-powered grading platform that helps educators grade written assignments, essays, and quiz responses up to 10× faster. You define a rubric — or let Gradifier generate one — set how strictly you want assignments marked, and Gradifier evaluates every student response and produces a grade and written feedback. It comes in two forms: Gradifier Studio (a web app that works with any LMS) and Gradifier Assistant (a Chrome extension that grades directly inside Moodle).

Q. What is the difference between Gradifier Studio and Gradifier Assistant?

Gradifier Studio is a web-based platform that works with any LMS. You upload questions and student answers in bulk, generate rubrics, and export graded results in CSV or XLSX formats compatible with Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, and Google Classroom. Gradifier Assistant is a Chrome extension built for Moodle — it activates inside your Moodle grading page and grades submissions without any exporting. Both products are included in every plan.

Q. Can Gradifier grade images and diagrams, not just text answers?

Yes. Gradifier can evaluate visual responses including diagrams, graphs, sketches, annotated images, and handwritten work — a capability most AI grading tools do not support. This makes it valuable for STEM subjects, design courses, and assessments where students draw or annotate as part of their answer.

Q. What types of assignments can Gradifier grade?

Gradifier is designed for open-ended written and visual responses: essays, short answer responses, lab reports, case study analyses, reflective writing, diagram questions, and annotated image responses. It is not designed for multiple-choice or purely numerical questions.

Q. How accurate is AI grading? Can I trust the grades Gradifier produces?

Gradifier grades every submission against the rubric you define. Accuracy is tied to rubric clarity, and you review every grade before submission — editing individual grades and feedback at any point. A strictness level (lenient to strict) lets you calibrate how the AI applies the rubric, and instant regrade applies any rubric changes across all submissions.

Compatibility & Setup

Q. Does Gradifier work with LMSs other than Moodle?

Yes. Gradifier Studio is LMS-agnostic and works with Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, Google Classroom, or any platform that accepts CSV or XLSX uploads. Gradifier Assistant is specifically designed for Moodle's native grading interface.

Q. Do I need my Moodle administrator or IT department to set up Gradifier?

No. Gradifier Assistant is a Chrome extension that any teacher can install directly from the Chrome Web Store in seconds — no IT department, no Moodle administrator, and no server-side configuration required. For institution-wide deployment with centralized licensing and SSO, an Institutional plan is available where an administrator would be involved.

Data & Privacy

Q. Is student data safe? Is Gradifier GDPR-compliant?

Student answer data submitted to Gradifier is processed by the AI model and immediately discarded — it is not stored on Gradifier's servers after grading is complete. This significantly reduces data protection risk. For institutional deployments requiring formal data processing agreements (DPAs) under GDPR or equivalent regulations, Gradifier can provide the necessary documentation.

Pricing

Q. How does Gradifier pricing work? What is included in the free plan?

Gradifier has three tiers. The Free Instructor Suite ($0/month) includes 50 graded answers per month with both Gradifier Studio and Gradifier Assistant. The Plus plan ($30/month) includes 2,000 answers per month. Institutional plans offer custom pricing with centralized admin, SSO, and support agreements. All features are included from the free plan up.

vs. Other tools

Q. How is Gradifier different from just using ChatGPT or Claude to grade?

Using a general-purpose AI chatbot to grade requires pasting each student's work one at a time, rewriting your rubric each time, and manually copying grades with no audit trail. Gradifier automates the entire workflow: bulk upload, consistent rubric application, editable per-student feedback, grade distribution analytics with outlier detection, and direct LMS export — all inside Moodle's grading interface.

Q. How does Gradifier compare to Gradescope or Turnitin?

Gradescope is a submission management and annotation tool — educators still do the grading manually. Turnitin is a plagiarism detection platform — it does not grade submissions. Gradifier fills a different role: it automatically reads student work, applies your rubric, and produces grades and feedback without the educator grading each submission manually.

Q. How does Gradifier compare to CoGrader or Magic School AI?

oGrader and Magic School AI are general AI tools for teachers with grading features. Gradifier is purpose-built for bulk grading at scale with Moodle-native integration, image and diagram grading, a strictness slider with instant regrade, and grade distribution analytics — capabilities not offered by general teacher AI suites.

Q. Can I use Gradifier across my whole department or institution?

Yes. Gradifier's Institutional plan is designed for universities and institutes that want to deploy AI grading across multiple instructors or departments. It includes:

  • Centralized admin controls and license allocation
  • SSO integration
  • Dedicated onboarding and support
  • Data processing agreements for GDPR and similar requirements
  • Negotiable answer quotas to match your institution's volume
